Bitcoin held $78,714 with a 1.4 percent gain while StarkWare confirmed the first quantum-safe transaction cleared on mainnet block 964199. The move used a 10,000-satoshi output and paid a 5,179-satoshi fee.

Christian Barker (Barkmeta / Bark) and David Chaboki (Shibo) highlighted the same mainnet QSB print in community discussion to separate it from unrelated XRPL coverage. The transaction shows holders can move coins into storage that resists a working quantum computer without altering Bitcoin rules.

How the transaction worked

Avihu Levy, StarkWare general manager of applications, developed the QSB method in April 2026. Engineer Tomer Giladi turned the research into a live mainnet transaction. The approach pairs a hash-based lock with off-chain signature grinding through Binohash and Robin Linus. No consensus change was required. MARA Slipstream accepted the nonstandard transaction because ordinary mempool routing does not support it.

What ownership and utility gain

Bitcoin holders now have an opt-in path to protect coins whose public keys remain unpublished. The method shifts spending conditions from elliptic-curve signatures to hash-based security. That protection holds against Shor’s algorithm attacks. The transaction demonstrates practical utility today even though a soft fork remains the preferred long-term fix.

Eli Ben-Sasson, StarkWare CEO, described the work as an after-hours passion project that proves Bitcoin has no expiration date. The successful spend offers reassurance that holdings can be secured before any consensus upgrade arrives.

Limits that remain

QSB does not make the entire Bitcoin network quantum-safe. It cannot protect addresses that already exposed public keys. Off-chain computation costs several hundred dollars per spend. The transaction stays nonstandard and miner-dependent for now.

Market context on the day

Majors continued to chop with green candles across the board. ETH rose 1.3 percent to $2,466.39. SOL added 2.5 percent to $106.34. DOGE edged 0.6 percent higher at $0.085385. XRP printed a 0.9 percent move to $1.40. The quantum-safe print arrived against this steady backdrop, giving owners a new utility angle without shifting broader price action.

The StarkWare blog post and on-chain record in block 964199 confirm the details. Decrypt and Cryptopolitan carried the Aug. 27 pickup. The story centers on ownership tools that work under current rules while the chart keeps its own rhythm.
